Petrillo continues hot hitting, but Colts drop a pair to Owls

EDISON, NJ (March 23,2021) – Christian Petrillo continued his offensive tear at the plate, but it was not enough as Middlesex dropped their double header to Union.

Game 1 (6-2 Loss) – In game 1, Dante Duarte (Union City, NJ/Union City) took the ball for his first start (0-1) on the mound. Duarte had a strong outing throwing 4.2 innings while only allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 4. Frank Shipman (Edison, NJ/Edison) came on in relief to throw the final 2.1 innings striking out 4 and not allowing a hit. Christian Petrillo (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) led the offense going 2-3 with a run scored and a HBP. Louie Folgore (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) went 2-4 with an RBI and Josh Hernandez (West Palm Beach, FL/Park Vista) added a double. The Colts could not put together enough of a rally as they fell behind early and went on to lose by a final score of 6-2.

Game 2 (7-2 Loss) – In game 2, Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) took the mound for his first collegiate start (0-1). Figueroa threw 4 innings allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits. Chris Sommer (Edison, NJ/Edison) and Jaden Ojeda (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) closed out the final 3 innings of relief. Petrillo once again remained the offensive catalyst reaching base safely in all 4 plate appearances. He went 3-3 with an RBI double, run scored and 3 stolen bases. Tyler Sharfetz (Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy) added a pair of hits to round out the offense for the Colts. Middlesex would fall in the nightcap by a final score of 7-2.
