MIDDLESEX SPLITS WITH CAMDEN, TAKES SEASON-OPENING SERIES
Thomas Niedermaier hurled a complete game and Giovanni Aresta and Matthew Flammia each went 1-3 with two runs and an RBI to lead Middlesex College to an 11-4 Game 2 victory in a doubleheader at Camden County College.
The Colts (3-3) dropped Game 1, 7-4, but took two out of three from Camden in their first-three game set of the season.
In Game 1, Camden (2-2) broke open a scoreless tie in the third with a five-run inning. The Cougars tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth. Middlesex scored their only runs of the game in a four-run fifth inning.
Jordan Brown (Freshman/Piscataway, NJ) led off the inning with a single and Christopher Born (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) followed with a one-out single of his own. Christian Petrillo (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) doubled both of them home. Flammia drove home Petrillo and Zachary Brown (Freshman/Hamilton, NJ) with a two-out double to cap the Game 1 scoring for the Colts.
In the nightcap, Middlesex used an eight-run third inning to provide more than enough support for Niedermaier.
Born drove home Nicholas Loniewski (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) with one out to get the scoring started. Aresta, Flammia, Jordan Brown each drove in runs with singles. The Colts scored three other runs when Colby Chippendale (Freshman/North Port, FL) walked with the bases loaded and the final two runs score when Loniewski and Born were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Middlesex added three more runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Aresta, Flammia and Connor Luckie (Freshman/Hamilton, NJ) drew consecutive walks leading off the frame and came home on an error and two more bases loaded walks by Chippendale and Born.
The Colts turn right back around for two more games tomorrow in a home makeup against SUNY Orange. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
