CHRISTIAN PETRILLO NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL REGION XIX, 3 OTHER COLTS HONORED
After a historic season for the Middlesex College baseball team, the honors are starting to come in.
Four Middlesex College Colts were named to the All-Region XIX Team, led by Christian Petrillo (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) who was the sole representative on First Team.
The dynamic center fielder was the catalyst for a Middlesex College offense that was one of the tops in the nation. Petrillo batted .363 (73-201) while scoring 78 runs out of the leadoff spot, a total that was second in the nation among NJCAA Division III players. Petrillo led all of NJCAA Division III with 63 stolen bases while only being caught six times. He struck out just 13 times all season.
Braden Ramirez (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) led the way for the Colts on the second team after having one of the top run-producing seasons in the country.
Ramirez led the Colts with 75 hits, a total that placed him seventh in the country. He had 72 RBIs, one short of the Region XIX lead and fourth in the nation. He batted .381 with a 1.094 OPS. Ramirez had 18 multi-RBI games last season including a season-high seven RBIs in a win over Salem CC. The freshman outfielder led the team with nine home runs.
Christopher Born (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) was the other representative for the Colts on the second team. A tall, athletic infielder, Born started the season at second base, but transitioned to shortstop, where he excelled.
Born was third on the team with 64 hits and batted .379 with a number of clutch hits to his credit. Born was a perfect 22-22 in stolen bases last season and scored 55 runs.
Gio Aresta (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) slugged his way to Third Team All-Region XIX honors on the strength of a 1.016 OPS. Aresta batted .366 with 12 doubles, three triples and four home runs. Aresta finished the season hot, having multiple hits in five of his final nine games.
In two key wins over Brookdale CC, Aresta went 4-7 with three runs, a double, triple, two home runs and five RBIs.
The accolades come after a fantastic season by Head Coach CJ Mooney's Colts. The team set a school record for wins, going 37-20 on the season. They were one of the winningest teams in Region XIX and earned a berth in the Region XIX playoffs.
