MIDDLESEX MENS SOCCER UPENDS SUSSEX CC 2-0

Middlesex College Men's Soccer created multiple strong scoring chances all game long, cashing in one goal in each half, as the Colts topped visiting Sussex County College 2-0.

The Colts (3-1) got on the board first when Juan Minota Veja (Freshman/Carteret, NJ) blistered a shot from 40 yards out in the 32nd minute, beating the Sussex keeper high from an ambitious distance.

Middlesex generated many other chances in the half, but couldn't find the back of the net as they carried their 1-0 lead into the half.

The Colts maintained their momentum in the second half and briefly looked like they took a 2-0 lead, however the goal was disallowed due to an infraction. Middlesex didn't dwell on the disappointment though, keeping the pressure on Sussex before finally netting an insurance goal to make it 2-0 with 17:55 minutes remaining.

The goal again came after consistent pressure inside the Sussex 18-yard line. Kevin Lorenc (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) found Jamie Madrid (Sophomore/Perth Amboy), who fired a shot at a sharp angle, beating the Sussex keeper for his team-leading third goal of the season.

Jeremy Madrid (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) started his first game in goal this season and recorded three saves in the shutout victory. The Colts put 15 shots on goal, compared to three for Sussex.

The Colts, who received votes in this week's NJCAA Division III National Poll, return to the field Tuesday for an important home match against RCSJ-Cumberland. Kickoff is set for 4:00PM at Thomas Edison Park.
